“...Peace from God...” - Colossians 1:2
This has to be the most profound combination of words in the whole of the universe, throughout all of history. For all who believe, PEACE FROM GOD! Why such magnificence? It is of more value than any other idea, thought or philosophy. It is far better than any advancement in medicine or technology. It is greater than any story ever told, a better gift than all riches one could amass in a lifetime or all the pleasures and adventures one could experience, all the victories and accomplishments one could achieve. In one word is summed up the Gospel. It is a declaration that our once dreadful condemnation and guilty condition before God no longer stands against us. Peace! When a man is found guilty of a crime before a judge, he is sentenced to his punishment and it is 100% going to be carried out. And so were we. But we were guilty of many crimes against God, sentenced to an eternity of enduring His wrath upon us in the infinite prison of fire to be tormented day and night with no end in sight, our deserved terrible “Forever”! But In Christ He freed us from that sentence. From this very point the apostle Paul declares for all who believe now and forever, Peace from God! It must be among the most underestimated combination of words but the most beautiful, harmonious and endearing words to hear. I would forever take these three short one syllable words over all other gain I might have in his world. Lord let me be poor, miserable and tormented in this life if I must to only hear these words addressed to my soul! I would give up all levels of money, possessions, pleasures, achievements and relationships to keep these words. Cling to Christ and nothing else and no one else and these words are yours dear friend. Turn from your guilty life to the Lord Jesus and His death will become the death of your sin, His life the life of your soul, our purchased glorious “Forever”! Oh what beautiful news this is. Not just that He took the bad from us but that He brings us into His heavenly home where He dwells. He has and will perfectly purge from us all sin and sinful abilities when we see Him in glory. Let us never tire of letting these words ring in our ears, encourage our soul and fall to our knees in adoration and worship!
